What is the iDEX Defence Scheme? — Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh

Saharanpur is a fast-growing Tier-2 business hub in Uttar Pradesh, with rising MSME formation and improving institutional lender depth. iDEX Defence Innovation Scheme is increasingly accessed by founders here as state-level delivery mechanisms mature.

Uttar Pradesh's One District One Product programme has certified 75+ district products and UP's MSME Policy 2022 offers capital subsidy, interest subvention, and stamp-duty exemption. For Saharanpur applicants, this creates a stackable incentive environment where iDEX Defence Innovation Scheme can be paired with UP MSME Policy 2022, ODOP (One District One Product), and UP Startup Policy 2020 for maximum benefit.

iDEX Defence Innovation Scheme targets defence-domain innovators and dual-use technology startups. Saharanpur-based applicants benefit from Uttar Pradesh's defence industrial policy alignment, with UPSIDA (UP State Industrial Development Authority) facilitating iDEX-adjacent introductions where applicable.

Innovations for Defence Excellence (iDEX) is an initiative launched by the Ministry of Defence (MoD) under the Defence Innovation Organisation (DIO). It aims to create a self-reliant and innovative defence ecosystem in India by engaging startups, MSMEs and innovators to develop technology solutions for defence and aerospace challenges.

Under iDEX, the Ministry of Defence, Indian Army, Indian Navy and Indian Air Force publish specific technology 'problems' called DISC (Defence India Startup Challenges) and Open Challenges. Selected startups receive grant funding of up to ₹1.5 Crore over 18 months to prototype and validate their solutions.

iDEX is part of India's 'Make in India' and 'Atmanirbhar Bharat' initiatives and provides selected innovators a direct path to procurement by Indian defence forces — giving startups both funding and a guaranteed potential customer.
